Where you stand

A rank is a score someone else keeps. Before you chase it, find out who keeps it and what they count.

You are ranked 880. That number only helps if you know exactly which list it comes from, because different lists reward different things. A brand's dealer ranking counts what you buy from the brand. A directory counts reviews and clicks. The government's vendor rating counts something else again. So the first job in this playbook is not to work harder. It is to find out what is being measured.

The list you are most likely on

If your company installs rooftop systems under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, you are a registered vendor on the national portal, and the portal rates vendors.

In Uttar Pradesh, UPNEDA published its first vendor rating list on 31 December 2024. It covered 1,737 registered vendors and graded them by how many subsidies each had got redeemed, using portal data up to 26 December 2024:

Grade Subsidies redeemed Vendors in UP
A++ 500 or more 6
A+ 400 to 499 4
A 300 to 399 3
A− 200 to 299 18
B+ 100 to 199 103
B 50 to 99 186
C 10 to 49 509
C− 1 to 9 438
D 0 470

Read that table slowly. Only 31 vendors in the whole state had 200 or more redeemed subsidies at the time. The top of this market is not crowded. It is thin.

If your 880 comes from a different list, stop here and find out which one. Everything below assumes it is the government rating, and the levers for other lists are different.

What the government rating counts

MNRE's Framework for Vendor Rating Programme (24 July 2024) sets out how vendors are rated. The short version:

Consumer feedback is collected on the portal and through the National Call Centre. The call centre also calls customers 2 to 6 months after installation to ask about after-sales service. Complaints raised on the portal are scored on how quickly you resolve them.

What this means for you

Two things move you up. How many of your jobs reach a redeemed subsidy, and what your customers say about you afterwards, including months later when a government caller asks them.

That is good news for where you are right now. You want as many customers as you can get, and every job that reaches a credited subsidy counts. But a job that gets stuck, or a customer who complains and waits two weeks for a fix, counts against you. Volume and quality are not opposites in this rating. Volume that finishes well is exactly what it rewards.

Your baseline

Fill these in now, from the portal and your own records. Chapter 10 asks you to compare against them after 90 days, so a rough honest number beats a perfect one next month.
