Subsidy and approvals

Customers are afraid of the paperwork. The installer who makes the subsidy painless wins the job, the referral and the rating.

For a family, the hardest part of going solar is not the roof. It is the portal, the electricity department and the wait for the subsidy. Every customer who gets their money quickly and hears from you along the way becomes a referral. Every customer left wondering where their subsidy is becomes a complaint, and chapter 1 showed that complaints count against your rating.

Subsidy rules change. Check the current amounts on the national portal and the UPNEDA portal before you quote them to a customer, and write the date you checked on your quotation format.

Your electricity company in Prayagraj is PuVVNL (Purvanchal Vidyut Vitaran Nigam Limited), part of UPPCL. Feasibility approval, net metering and inspection all go through them.

How long the scheme runs. MNRE's framework document states the scheme "is to be implemented till FY 2026-27", which ends on 31 March 2027. Watch for any official extension. Chapter 11 plans for both cases.

The steps, in order

  1. The customer registers on pmsuryaghar.gov.in and applies, with their latest electricity bill.
  2. PuVVNL gives technical feasibility approval.
  3. The customer chooses a vendor registered on the portal. Only a registered vendor's installation qualifies for the subsidy.
  4. You install the system, using modules that meet the scheme's current rules.
  5. Net metering is applied for, and PuVVNL inspects and commissions the system.
  6. The commissioning details and the customer's bank details are submitted on the portal.
  7. The subsidy is credited to the customer's bank account.

The state subsidy has its own application on the UPNEDA rooftop portal. Make sure it is filed too, or the customer loses up to ₹30,000 and blames you.
